TR-4 as Coach and Pc: Section 1

Page 3 of 5: Drill 1b

Continuing on from Drill 1a on the previous page:

  1. Click on Drill 1b. You will hear the student ask, "Do birds fly?" You don't need to grade this as we are merely picking up from the same point we just got to.

  2. As pc, make a simple origination about your case that won't require anything other than being acknowledged. Say the sessions are really going well or something like that. Close the screen where the student asked the question.

  3. Still as pc, press the "I made a simple origination" link. Do this in addition to saying your origination aloud. Assume the student understood what you said, as it should have been very straightforward. Hear the student ack, "That's great", and preserve ARC while smoothly directing you back into session: "Is it OK with you if we carry on?"

  4. As coach, validate the student's correct handling of your origination. In this case he understood it, acknowledged it, and returned you to session, so click on the approprite "Student understood origin, acked, returned--Good" link. This coaching action of yours will receive a "correct" grade from the supervisor. Close that screen.

  5. Now as pc, answer the auditor's question. Say aloud that it is, and still as pc press the "I'm OK to continue session" link.

  6. Note the student acknowledging your answer, and giving the next command: "Good. Do birds fly?"

  7. As coach, grade the student's last action, which was correct. Click on the "Student acked, asked new question--Good" link. Note your coaching action is graded as "correct".

  8. Now do it again, but coach the last bit wrongly, as shown in 9-14:

  9. Click on Drill 1b. You will hear the student ask, "Do birds fly?"

  10. As pc, make a simple origination about your case that won't require anything other than being acknowledged. Say the sessions are really going well or something like that. Close the screen where the student asked the question.

  11. Press the "I made a simple origination" link. Do this in addition to saying your origination aloud. Assume the student understood what you said, as it should have been very straightforward. Hear the student ack, "Great!", and preserve ARC while smoothly directing you back into session: "Is it OK if we continue with the session?"

  12. Say aloud that it is, and press the "I'm OK to continue session" link.

  13. Note the student acknowledging your answer, and giving the next command: "Good. Do birds fly?"

  14. Imagine that you as coach mis-perceived this as the student got flustered and stumbled on this step, and say aloud "Flunk!" Then, point put the imagined error, and say "Start!" all aloud still. Also click the "Student got flustered--Flunk" link. You will get a "incorrect" screen to show that was an incorrect coaching action there.

  15. Now do these steps again, but correctly this time, as in 1-7 on this page.

  16. Repeat the steps on these two pages until you're comfortable with this procedure.
